Apothicom is a French company specialising in harm reduction equipment
for people who inject drugs.
What is harm reduction (HR)?
Developed in the 1980s in the context of the HIV epidemic among people who inject drugs, HR describes series of measures aimed at reducing the damage to health and social harm associated with drug use. The distribution of needles, syringes, and other sterile equipment suitable for injecting drugs is part of these measures.
Apothicom was created as an association in 1992 by doctors wanting to provide people who inject drugs with equipment adapted to their practices.
Today it is a company of 10 employees, which develops and distributes this equipment in more than 20 countries, directly or via distributors.
Apothicom offers a wide range of equipment that covers all needs related to drug injection, from injection preparation to post-injection care. Among this equipment, the Stericup and Maxicup preparation containers and the Sterifilt filters were developed and designed by Apothicom itself.

We develop harm reduction tools for people who inject drugs. We adapt them to changing practices through field work and constant monitoring of the progress of research in this domain.
We ensure the distribution of the tools that we have developed and are, in this respect, a distributor within the meaning of Regulation (EU) 2017/745 relating to medical devices.
We offer advice to harm reduction professionals and people who inject drugs in the use of our tools by creating appropriate supports (documents, videos, webinars) in France and abroad. All our communications aim to promote and encourage the use of sterile and single-use equipment by informing about the risks associated with drug injection.
